Mumbai is Collection of seven islands

Mumbai is collection of seven islands. Seven Island names are Isle of Bombay, Colaba, Old Woman's Island (Little Colaba), Mahim, Mazgaon, Parel and Worli. There also are several smaller islands that lay to the East of the main seven islands: Butcher Island, Middle Ground, Oyster Rock, East Ground, Cross Island, Elephanta Island is also known as Gharapuri.

First-Ever Indian Train

On 16th April 1853, The First passenger train was running from Mumbai to Thane. This train covered a total distance of 33 kilometres. This railway had 14 carriages.
Sindh, Sahib & Sultan; Were the three engines that carried the trains with having around 400 travellers to the destination.


First-Ever Indian Bus

Buses are the most important public transport in India. They were first launched as public transport in India on 15th July 1926. They ran between Afghan Church to Crawford Market.



Juhu Aerodrome was the first airport in India

Juhu Aerodrome was started in 1928 as the First Civil Aviation Airport in India. It is near to Nanavati Hospital. This Airport also called the Vile Parle Flying Club.



The Jungle Book Author born in Mumbai

Joseph Rudyard Kipling is a famous English Journalist & short story writer. He was born in Bombay, India (now called Mumbai) on 30th December 1865. He is known as an Innovator of Short Story. He published “The Jungle Book” in 1894. The book has very fond memories of our growing up years. Some of the eternal characters in this book were: Mowgali, a Boy who was raised by Wolves, Bagheera and Baloo. The bear was known as Bhaloo. A Black Panther was called Bagheera. Indian Wolf’s Rama & Raksha were his Father and Mother. a Bengal Tiger called as Sher Khan.



Name changed from Bombay to Mumbai

Mumbai, this was the name given to Bombay in 1995 when Shiv Sena came into Power. The main idealogy behind this was that they believed “Bombay” belongs to British Colonialism and therefore the name must be changed to Mumbai with respect to the Goddess Mumbadevi.

Every years over thousands of migratory flamingos make Mumbai their temporary haven. They have been known to be visiting Mumbai since 1980. While there was a dip in the numbers visiting Mumbai, but the numbers have again become steady. These birds have been prominently seen in Sewri and some parts of Navi Mumbai too.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link

The World-Famous Bandra-Worli Sea link, is also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link. This is a cable bridge that connects Western part (Bandra) to Southern part (Worli) of Mumbai. This is the perfect example of the Genius Engineering which reduced travel time between these traffic jam parts. Balasaheb Thackeray kept the foundation stone for this Majestic Skyline bridge in the year 1999.

 

The famous Dabbawalas of Mumbai

Dabbawalas of Mumbai, wear famous White Kurta - Lehanga & traditional Gandhi cap. They deliver home cooked food since year 1890. Who need home-cooked food. There are five thousand Dabbawalas delivering food to around 2 lacs people in Mumbai city.

 

Asia's largest slum – Dharavi, It's in Mumbai

Dharavi is one of Asia’s largest slum which located on the prime location in Mumbai. It is home to millions of people & small-scale businesses i.e. embroidered Garments, Leather goods, Pottery etc. There are tiny manufacturing units which have presence in Domestic & International markets. These businesses generate turnover of around $650mn in a year. The State government has plans to redevelop it from a Dharavi full of slums to Modern township.



Second tallest in India - Air traffic control tower

Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) is a mandatory aeronautical facility for the operation of the Airports and is operated by Airport Authorities of India (AAI). Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) has the second tallest Air Traffic control tower.



First nation to win a World Cup Final on its home ground

The Wankhede Stadium witnessed of numerous high-profile clashes of Cricketing world. One of the biggest achievements of Indian Cricket was to win 2011 World Cup on home soil, India is the first country which has won the World Cup title on its Home Ground.
In 2023, India will host 13th edition of the men’s Cricket World Cup. This is the first time that India will completely host the competition, without sharing matches with neighbor countries.


First Express Highway of India

The Mumbai-Pune Express highway is known as Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway. This E-way built by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. It is the first Express Highway of India. In April 2020, the Government demolished the 189 years old “Amrutanjan Bridge” of British era after this highway was built.
